This policy (together with our Terms of Website Use, and any other documents referred to on it) sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us. For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998 (the Act), the data controller is UpStArt, c/o The Anne Frank Trust UK, Head Office, Star House 104-108 Grafton Road London NW5 4BA.

By entering our competitions or submitting data to us, whether manually or electronically, you consent to us processing your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Uses made of the information

We use information held about you in the following ways:
  • To judge any competition entry that you have submitted to us.
  • To involve you in any publicity where you have expressly consented to us naming you and/or your school.
  • To ensure that content from our site is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer.
  • To provide you with information, products or services that you request from us and which we feel may interest you.
  • To carry out our obligations arising from any contracts entered into between you and us.
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so.
  • To notify you about changes to our service.
  • To facilitate market research or general research (where your data will be used on an anonymous basis) or to facilitate research associated with the competition.
We may also use your data to provide you with information about goods and services from third parties which may be of interest to you. If you do not want to be contacted about such goods or services by third parties, please email privacy@up-start.co.uk to opt out from receiving any such communications.
We may also share your data with third parties who are assisting us with the purposes for which the data was collected such as our email service providers or website designers.

We do not disclose information about identifiable individuals to our advertisers, but we may provide them with aggregate information about our users (for example, we may inform them that 500 men aged under 30 have clicked on their advertisement on any given day). We may also use such aggregate information to help advertisers reach the kind of audience they want to target (for example, women in SW1). We may make use of the personal data we have collected from you to enable us to comply with our advertisers’ wishes by displaying their advertisement to that target audience.

Where we store your personal data

The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”). By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy.

Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password, which enables you to access certain parts of our site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share a password with anyone.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site; any transmission is at your own risk.
